The Village of Warrens Board of Trustees on Feb. 10 approved several administrative measures including a switch to the Caselle Civic Cloud, an amended engineering fee schedule and authorization to apply for an AARP Community Challenge grant.
The board voted unanimously to implement the Caselle Civic Cloud at an annual cost of $3,240, citing benefits such as remote access, automatic backups, free upgrades and priority support. The board discussed whether a physical on-site backup should be retained but did not require one. The motion was made by A. Werner and seconded by P. Malinger.
Trustees also approved a recommendation from the Plan Commission to raise the General Engineering Company (GEC) fee schedule from 10% to 15%; the motion by P. Malinger, seconded by P. Hardiman, carried unanimously. The change was presented as a Plan Commission recommendation following its Feb. 2 meeting.
The board authorized the clerk to submit an AARP Community Challenge grant application to fund ADA-compliant entry doors at the Community Building and accessible benches throughout the village. The application requires no local match; acceptance of any award would be subject to future board approval. The motion to authorize submission was made by M. Rezin and seconded by T. Swope.
On building maintenance, the board amended and approved a motion to replace flooring in the municipal office front area and hallway, authorizing staff to obtain final quotes and proceed with work not to exceed $5,000; the motion was made by M. Rezin and seconded by P. Hardiman.
Routine business included approval of prior meeting minutes, transfer and payment of bills, and an operator’s license for Kevin Peterson of Cranberry Country Café LLC d/b/a The Pines Restaurant; all motions carried by unanimous recorded totals. The board also approved a plan for Village participation in the U.S. 250th Anniversary celebration and instructed staff to proceed with implementation.
During a closed session to discuss personnel matters, trustees considered potential outside employment for Clerk Tonna Claussen with the Warrens Area Business Association (WABA). After returning to open session, the board approved the clerk’s potential outside employment subject to compliance with the Village Employee Handbook and conflict-of-interest provisions.
The meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m. The board scheduled its next meeting for March 17, 2026.
