Waldo board tables proposed shipping-container ban to match Plan Commission recommendation

The Village of Waldo Board voted April 13 to table Ordinance 2026-04, a proposed zoning change addressing shipping containers, portable storage units and storage trailers, so trustees could amend the measure to follow the Plan Commission's recommendation.

Trustee Jerome Hammarlund moved to table the ordinance "to amend it to be in agreement with the Plan Commission's recommendation of prohibiting residential use but allowing Industrial, Commercial, and Agricultural use." Trustee Michael Hintz seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Resident Brian Wimmler had told the board during public comment that "the Plan Commission made a good choice on their recommendation for the shipping container ordinance," a comment the board said it considered while discussing the amendment. The board did not adopt language at the April meeting; tabling preserves an opportunity to revise the ordinance before a future vote.

The ordinance as introduced would repeal Article VII 67-24 and create 195-15 in the zoning code to regulate shipping containers, portable storage units and storage trailers; at the April 13 meeting trustees opted to pause final action pending amendment. No vote tally by name was recorded in the minutes.

Next steps: the board will return the measure for amendment to match the Plan Commission recommendation; the revised ordinance will be scheduled for a future meeting.
