Port Republic council adopts 36-item consent agenda, makes nominations and announces mayoral appointments

The Port Republic City Council adopted a 36-item consent agenda at its Jan. 6 reorganization meeting, approving a temporary 2026 budget and a slate of administrative and contract authorizations on a single motion.
On a motion by Councilmember David Crawford, seconded by Councilmember Donna Riegel, the council adopted Resolutions No. 1-2026 through No. 36-2026. The vote was recorded as YES from Councilmembers Steven Allgeyer, David Crawford, Eugene Hawn, Donna Riegel, Jeffrey Ropiecki and Michael Turner; Councilmember Roger Giberson was absent. The consent agenda included approval of a Temporary Budget for 2026 (No. 1-2026), authorization of a Cash Management Plan, establishment of depository funds, authorization of a $100 petty cash fund, and designation of official and secondary newspapers (The Press of Atlantic City and The Hammonton Gazette).
The slate also named professional appointments including Nancy Sbrolla, CPA, RMA of Ford, Scott & Associates, LLC as auditor; William Kaufmann, Esq. of Nehmad, Davis & Goldstein, PC as city solicitor; and Joel Fleishman, Esq. as bond counsel. The agenda authorized agreements with vendors, including Electronic Recyclers International, and services such as aerial mosquito control and deer carcass removal. Several administrative items were included: volunteer tuition credit program, tax-sale authority pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:5-19, and designation of the Humane Society of Atlantic County as animal shelter.
Separately, the council recorded leadership nominations: Councilmember Steven Allgeyer moved, seconded by Councilmember Eugene Hawn, to nominate Roger Giberson for Council President; the motion carried in the absence of Giberson, who will take the oath at a subsequent meeting. Councilmember Donna Riegel moved, seconded by Councilmember David Crawford, to nominate Steven Allgeyer as Council President Pro Tempore; that nomination carried and the oath was administered by Mayor Monica Giberson.
Mayor Monica Giberson announced mayoral appointments, naming William Montag as Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator and Donna Riegel as City Council Liaison to the Planning Board (one-year appointments). No council discussion or roll-call objections to the appointments were recorded.
During the public-comment portion, Doris Bugdon of 14 St. John's Lane said she could not hear the proceedings and asked that a sound system be used to improve audibility; Mayor Giberson said the issue would be reviewed during budget discussions. The council adjourned at 6:17 p.m.
