Port Republic council adopts budget self-examination, backs LRIG recreation grant and introduces CAP-bank ordinance

At its Jan. 6 meeting, Port Republic Council adopted Resolution 37-2026 (self-examination of the budget), approved a resolution supporting a FY2026 Local Recreation Improvement Grant application, and introduced Ordinance 01-2026 to bank CAP under N.J.S.A. 40A:4-45.14. Port Republic’s City Council on Jan. 6 adopted a self-examination of the municipal budget and voted to support an application for a FY2026 Local Recreation Improvement Grant (LRIG) from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
On the motion of Councilmember David Crawford, seconded by Councilmember Eugene Hawn, the council adopted Resolution 37-2026 (Self-Examination of Budget). The roll call recorded Allgeyer, Crawford, Hawn, Riegel, Ropiecki and Turner as voting yes; one member was absent.
Council then approved Resolution 38-2026, a resolution of support authorizing submission of a FY2026 LRIG application, on a motion by Councilmember Crawford and seconded by Councilmember Donna Riegel. The motion carried with the same attending yes votes.
During the meeting Council introduced Ordinance 01-2026, which would allow the municipality to exceed appropriation limits and establish a CAP bank under N.J.S.A. 40A:4-45.14. The ordinance was introduced on first reading after a motion by Councilmember Riegel and a second by Councilmember Crawford; the vote to introduce the ordinance was recorded in favor by the attending members.
Council also completed routine administrative business. On motions moved and seconded by councilmembers, the body approved the Dec. 9, 2025 regular meeting minutes and the Dec. 9, 2025 executive meeting minutes; it approved the January 2026 bill list and authorized payment of all signed bills. All votes on those administrative items passed with the attending six members voting yes and one member absent.
Finally, the council set a date for a January budget workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
Actions recorded in the minutes were procedural and administrative; no ordinance final adoptions or budget appropriations were completed at this meeting.
