Resident questions municipal EMS transport proposal and requests supporting study; council describes potential savings

Jeff Pellerin, a Fairfield resident, used the public comment period at the June 24 meeting to say he was frustrated with high taxes and to question the town’s move toward a municipal EMS transport service, requesting to see the supporting study.
Council Chair Timothy Martin responded that the mailer criticizing EMS services in surrounding communities was sent by a Fairfield resident who serves as president of the Delta Ambulance Board of Directors and was not an official Delta Ambulance communication or endorsement. Martin also explained the town currently pays a $60 per‑capita fee to Delta Ambulance and said establishing a municipal EMS transport service would eliminate that fee; he added the council does not expect the service to generate revenue but believes it will reduce long‑term costs for residents.
Pellerin additionally asked why the municipal budget vote had been held in June; the Town Clerk reported that more than 1,000 residents participated in the municipal election. Chair Martin said the municipal election timing was set to coincide with a school budget referendum and noted residents have opportunities to attend school budget meetings.
