Fairfield council approves budgets, community center roof replacement and fire pump repair; several motions pass unanimously

Crossroads‑TV’s fiscal year 2026‑27 budget and the Sewer Enterprise budget were both approved (motions by Councilor Stephanie Thibodeau; seconded by Councilor Peter Lawrence on Crossroads‑TV and by Vice Chair Matt Townsend on the Sewer budget). The consent agenda — including the acceptance of minutes for meeting #2026‑10, Treasurer’s Warrant #132 for $108,690.93 and a Sewer Certificate of Commitment for $153,531.00 — was approved as presented.
Council authorized use of $153,731 from the Building Capital Reserve Account to replace the Community Center roof and, on the Public Works Director’s recommendation, awarded the project to G&E Roofing. Public Works Director Tom Williams told the council the existing roof, installed in 1998, is leaking in multiple areas and that G&E’s inspection (including drone imagery) recommended full replacement. The motion to approve the roof replacement was recorded as carried 4‑0‑1 in the minutes; the minutes do not specify which councilor did not vote.
The council also authorized Fire Department use of $13,208.77 from its Capital Equipment Reserve to repair the pump on Engine 3. Fire Chief Leary said Allie King intends to purchase a second ambulance to match the current unit, and that facility modifications will be required to accommodate two ambulances. The motion to repair the pump passed 5‑0.
Separately, the council approved a routine authorization to draw on contingency funds as needed as of June 30, 2026; the contingency account balance was cited as $50,700. The council also accepted and authorized expenditure of additional donations for the town’s 250th celebration.
