Alma council approves multiple public-works and parks expenditures, permits and contracts

At its March 13 meeting the Alma Common Council approved a package of public-works and parks measures proposed by committee, including multiple small expenditures, permits and contracts.
Utilities Committee chair Larry Grisen summarized actions that the committee had approved: up to $1,000 for crackfilling to Tim Huebner; approval of street sweeping; alley brushing contracts to Chance McQuiston for two segments (Water Street north to CTH E for $4,000 and CTH E north to Vine Street for $2,500, alleys 10 feet wide); vacuuming of rocks from a crack-sealing project awarded to Scott Construction and Fahrner Asphalt; a tree-removal bid to Chance McQuiston to remove 10 trees and spraying work to prepare for retaining-wall repairs; and a plan to run a cross-contamination check at the County Courthouse for 2nd Street water concerns. The council approved the Utilities Committee report by motion.
The council also approved mobile-home park permits for Lorena Hungerford and Chad Webb and accepted two building permits for new homes.
Parks and Recreation chair Davie Meier reported that the committee recommended and the council approved quotes related to Rieck's Lake Park: partitions from Adam Loewenhagen for $4,800 and resurfacing floors in both bathrooms for $6,890. The committee also recommended purchasing six loads of rip rap to protect the shoreline at $820 per load for a total of $4,920; council approved that expenditure. The Parks committee discussed benches and a possible Little League program; Mayor Champeny will speak with Jeff Sedlmayr about Little League arrangements.
All recorded votes on these committee recommendations and permits were unanimous as stated in the minutes.
