Committees report on cemetery, feral cats, pigeon ordinance and parks projects

Committee chairs and staff briefed the Common Council on multiple community services and parks matters at the Feb. 13 meeting.
Services Committee Chair Loren Mueller reported the committee discussed opening Blocks B and C in Memorial Cemetery but tabled that matter for further consideration. The committee received an update from Stacy Lewellyn of Animal Friends of Alma on the feral cat trap-neuter-release (TNR) program and asked her to prepare a brochure with the clerk to inform residents and visitors about animal regulations.
The committee recommended a pigeon ordinance drafted by Council Member Gary Jepsen and asked for a public hearing before the March council meeting. Mueller also reported that a new fire truck tender has arrived and the 1990 Kodiak tanker will be sold on the Wisconsin Surplus site, with proceeds applied to the new tanker loan. The new ambulance chassis was reported delayed; the replacement chassis will be a 2026 model.
Parks & Recreation Chair Davie Meier said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved removal of a tree at Rieck's Lake Park, and the Corps required a five-year plan as a condition of a lease for park work. Meier said porta-potties will be ordered for the Little League season and that he will contact Jeff Sedlmayr about advertising for the program. Joe Wick reviewed the condition of parks, docks and the beach.
The Services Committee will draft cemetery rules and signage for future consideration. Council members asked staff to notify affected property owners about required tree removal for a retaining wall project on the east side of North 2nd Street.
The meeting also included routine committee minutes approvals and scheduled upcoming committee meetings.
