Alma council adopts cemetery rules and bans feeding wild animals

The Alma Common Council voted March 13 to adopt two ordinances: Ordinance #25-03, which establishes rules and regulations for city cemeteries, and Ordinance #25-02, which prohibits the feeding of wild animals within the city.
Both ordinances were introduced in public hearings earlier in the meeting. No testimony was received regarding the proposed cemetery ordinance before Mayor Richard Champeny closed the hearing. Ordinance #25-03 was approved by motion of David Earney, seconded by Randy Brommer, with all members voting yes by roll call.
On Ordinance #25-02 (feeding of wild animals prohibited), Stacy Lewellyn — introduced in the record as a member of Alma Friends of Animals and a 2nd Street resident — spoke in favor of the ban during the public hearing. Following no additional testimony Mayor Champeny closed the hearing and the council approved the ordinance by motion of Earney, seconded by Meier; the vote was unanimous.
Council minutes do not record additional substantive amendments to either ordinance in the March 13 proceedings. Both measures passed by the council and will be incorporated into city code per standard ordinance procedures.
