Alma council hears update on transfer of police services and plans to apply for Innovation Grant
Summary

During the Finance Committee report, Gary Jepsen said there are two applicants for the County position that would provide law enforcement to the City of Alma. No formal vote on transferring police services took place at the Jan. 16 meeting.
Later, Larry Grisen said the city will be applying for an Innovation Planning Grant because Alma is transferring police service to the county. Grisen explained the grant’s qualifications can include municipalities that contract out services such as fire, EMS and roads in addition to law enforcement. The council did not take a formal, final vote to move the police contract at this meeting; members received an informational briefing and approved committee reports that include the issue.
What happens next: Councilors listed upcoming committee meetings and the next council meeting was scheduled for Feb. 16, 2025, where related hearings and actions could appear on future agendas.
