Louisa County supervisors approve Walker’s Honey Creek subdivision, accept EMPG grant and make local appointments

At its Oct. 22, 2024 meeting the Louisa County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 202437 accepting the final plat for Walker’s Honey Creek Subdivision (15.82 acres), authorized signing of an EMPG emergency-management grant, appointed Mike Howard as Weed Commissioner for 2025 and named Randy Schlutz to the Board of Adjustment.
The Louisa County Board of Supervisors met Oct. 22, 2024, and approved several routine but consequential administrative actions, including accepting a final subdivision plat and formalizing grant and personnel actions.
Chairman Brad Quigley and Supervisor Shawn Maine were present; Supervisor Chris Ball was absent. The board approved the meeting agenda and minutes, and recorded that board members vote “AYE” unless otherwise noted in the minutes.
The board moved to sign and accept an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) applied for and received by Brian Hall, the county’s emergency manager. The motion to sign the EMPG grant was made by Supervisor Shawn Maine and seconded by Quigley and carried as recorded in the minutes.
Mike Howard delivered his annual weed-commission report. Following the report, the board moved (Maine, second Quigley) to appoint Mike Howard as the county’s Weed Commissioner for 2025.
County Engineer Adam Shutt provided his weekly update and read the county’s pledge in support of Iowa’s Five-Year Strategic Highway Safety Plan, 2024–2028. The board approved the pledge on a motion by Maine and seconded by Quigley.
The board also moved to appoint Randy Schlutz to the Louisa County Board of Adjustment. That motion was noted in the minutes as moved by Maine and seconded by Ball.
The most substantive action was adoption of Resolution 202437, which accepts the final plat titled WALKER’S HONEY CREEK SUBDIVISION. The resolution approves a subdivision consisting of two lots and an outlot for access, described in the resolution as totaling 15.82 acres (including 0.03 acre of public road right-of-way) out of specified sections and townships in Louisa County. The resolution states the plat was approved by the Louisa County Zoning Administrator, conforms to county ordinances and the comprehensive plan, and directs the chairman and county auditor to certify the resolution for recording. The resolution record lists AYEs as Brad Quigley and Shawn Maine; the minutes show Chris Ball was absent.
Chairman Quigley also reported on recent community-action and transfer-station meetings and said a proposal to borrow funds to purchase a trailer was discussed. Quigley tabled action on appointing a board member to the Louisa County SE Iowa Community Action Program until the Nov. 12 board meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:27 a.m. Auditor Selena Gerst and Elections/Real Estate Clerk Susan Schnedler attested to the meeting record.
