Norborne public-works update: lagoon outflow may need lining or replacement

Public Works Supervisor Joey Bates told the Board of Aldermen the city has met with Gary Webber from MRWA to coordinate sampling and lagoon maintenance and that the lagoon outflow pipe needs to be either lined or replaced. Bates said additional signage should be posted at the lagoon and that the lagoon needs to be checked for sludge.
Bates reported that city crews are nearly finished filling a demolished basement on Long Street and that crews will look for millings to repair potholes on Park Street after citizen complaints. He added he is three weeks into wastewater training and will be taking certification testing soon.
Mayor Jacob DeMint also updated the board on work involving Bartlet and West and discussed a new bulk water station as part of ongoing utility planning. There was no formal vote on the lagoon repairs at this meeting; staff said they will pursue MRWA assistance and further investigation of the pipe and sludge levels.
Next steps: staff to coordinate sampling and maintenance with MRWA, evaluate the outflow pipe for lining or replacement, and seek millings for Park Street repairs.
