Norborne approves purchase of two pickleball nets, funds park shed repair

At its March 10 meeting the Norborne Board of Aldermen approved purchase of two pickleball nets requested by the Park Board, accepted a $3,475 bid to repair the park shed (passed 3–1), and accepted a $1,000 MFA grant for the shed.
Natalie Fergason, representing the Norborne Park Board, told the Board of Aldermen during public comment that the Park Board is pursuing fundraising, a possible walking path and court maintenance for pickleball and requested three pickleball nets priced at $700 each. The board voted to fund two nets from the Park Checking account after Alderman Josh Elliott moved to purchase two nets; Alderman Garrett Matthews seconded and the motion carried.
Mayor Jacob DeMint announced the Park Board is seeking a picnic-table grant and reported the city received a $1,000 grant from MFA to help with the park shed. The board accepted a $3,475 bid from Vroom Construction to repair the park shed; the motion passed 3–1 with Alderman Josh Elliott recorded as opposing the bid.
The board also approved Mayor DeMint's appointment of Jennifer Lyon to the Park Board. Members discussed planned powerwashing and repainting of the court and continued fundraising for equipment and a potential walking path. The Park Board originally requested three nets; the board authorized purchase of two from the Park Checking account at $700 apiece.
Next steps: the City will proceed with purchase of the two nets from park funds and schedule the shed repair with Vroom Construction; the Park Board will continue fundraising and pursue the picnic-table grant application.
