Norborne aldermen approve hazard plan, equipment purchases, board appointments and insurance upgrade

Mayor Jacob DeMint updated the board on several infrastructure and administrative items at the Jan. 13 meeting, including a MODOT sidewalk replacement project along E. 2nd St./N. Pine St. tentatively scheduled to begin in March and MODOT's recommendation to replace a blinking intersection light with a larger LED in the department's next fiscal year.
In reports, Public Works Supervisor Joey Bates described demolition work on Long Street, repair of an exhaust fan at the water plant and planned replacement of lagoon aerator motors; he said he would address the alley between 4th and 5th streets after demolition work concludes.
On motions, Alderman Garrett Matthews moved (seconded by Alderman Julie McClure) to purchase replacement skid-steer parts damaged during demolition at a cost of $1,272.37; the motion carried. Matthews also moved (seconded by Alderman Josh Elliott) to purchase eight chairs for the council table at $52.99 apiece; the motion carried. Alderman Josh Elliott moved (seconded by Alderman Jackie Hall) to adopt the Carroll County Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan; the motion carried.
Alderman Jackie Hall moved (seconded by Alderman Elliott) to discontinue the Trex recycling/prize program due to changes in collection and prize allocations; the motion carried. Hall also moved (seconded by Elliott) to approve a commercial insurance upgrade at a cost of $390 until March, when the city will solicit new bids; that motion carried.
Mayor DeMint reported a $4,000 donation from Home Savings and Loan to the park board and nominated Marilyn Wright to the Library Board and Dana Wheeler to the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment. The council approved both appointments: Alderman Julie McClure moved to approve Wright's appointment (seconded by Alderman Garrett Matthews) and Matthews moved to approve Wheeler's appointment (seconded by Alderman Jackie Hall); both motions carried.
The board adjourned at approximately 7:11 p.m.
