Easton board authorizes outside counsel if needed as EMS renovation work continues

The town formalized the authorization after a motion by Dan Lent, seconded by Nick D'Addario, that passed unanimously. Lent said the EMS Commission recently appointed Bill Andrews as a business executive and non‑partisan member; Andrews has been assisting with budgeting and accounting for the renovation. Consultant and meeting attendee Gloria Bindelglass has also been regularly attending renovation meetings, Lent said.
Residents during public comment asked that the town engineer finish outstanding work on the EMS building and expressed concern about the potential cost of using outside attorneys. One resident thanked those working on the renovation while another said the town's legal strategy appears to be working. The board did not vote to expend a specific additional appropriation for outside counsel at the meeting.
Selectwoman Kristi Sogofsky asked the board for a clearly defined timeline for remaining work at the EMS building so expectations are clear; First Selectman Lent said the architects are preparing a punch list and said he ultimately makes final decisions while consulting advisors.
The board moved this item forward without additional immediate action; the authorization gives town officials the ability to retain counsel if circumstances require it while the renovation and related budgeting continue to be overseen by the EMS Commission.
