Porter County board approves Lakeshore Camp Resort liquor permit pending final inspection

Kenneth Taylor, president of the Porter County Alcohol Beverage Board, opened the July 9 meeting and led the board in approving a new retail liquor permit for Lakeshore Camp Resort, subject to a required final inspection and confirmation that the establishment’s written policies meet county requirements.

The decision matters because the permit (listed in the record as DL64 34451) will allow on-site sales at a campground facility serving Porter County residents and visitors. Board members pressed the applicant for details about staff training and loss-prevention procedures, and asked whether the business is within 200 feet of a school.

At the meeting, an applicant representative said the organization prepared the application and that staff will "card everyone"; the representative also said the park previously lost a liquor license and that new policies and procedures have been implemented. Board members asked whether the applicant operates other licenses in Indiana; the representative said this would be their only license in the state.

Board members focused on written policies for carryout sales, the consequences for an employee who sells to a minor, where coolers would be located on site, and the timing of a final inspection. The applicant confirmed there is a written employee-discipline policy addressing sales to minors and said the business will apply the same policies across locations if applicable.

After the questioning, a board member moved to approve the transfer/new license pending the final inspection and documentation of the required policies; another member seconded the motion and the board approved the motion by voice vote. The board recorded no opposition during the vote; the final permit remains contingent on a successful inspection and confirmed policies.

Earlier in the meeting, the board approved minutes from the prior meeting and moved through routine automatic renewals by voice votes. The board also briefly reviewed a disciplinary matter in which a five-day suspension had been imposed; the board confirmed that incident represented the individual’s first violation.

The meeting concluded after brief parting remarks and an adjournment motion. The board noted that the Lakeshore Camp Resort permit will not be finalized until after the scheduled inspection and verification of the applicant’s written policies.
