Highway Superintendent Theis updated the Polk County Board of Commissioners on road department operations at the Oct. 15 meeting.
Theis said paint striping on the county’s hard‑surfaced roads began the previous day. The county has received a bid from Schlegelmilch to dig a well for the Swedehome shop. Hardware for new stop and stop‑ahead signs — part of the High Risk Rural Road program — is being ordered. Theis also reported that Tallgrass will be staking road right‑of‑ways for pipeline crossings in the southeast part of the county, and that the Osceola shop is researching a better system for handling DEF (diesel exhaust fluid).
The Road Fund claims docket read into the record included Road Fund salaries of $35,414.53 and vendor payments such as Gehring Construction & Ready Mix ($28,114.26), Johnson Sand & Gravel ($19,640.61), Overland Sand & Gravel ($36,930.46) and others. The commission took no formal budget action during the update beyond approving the listed claims and the Boruch Masonry payment per earlier motion.
