Before citizen comments, Mayor Richard Champeny read a notice informing the council that Xcel Energy filed a civil lawsuit on Oct. 9, 2024. He said the filing prevents the City of Alma and the Board of Appeals from taking further action or discussing the Xcel Energy substation construction until directed by the court system.
Attorney Jon Seifert addressed the council to explain the appeals process and the litigation implications. The notice put the substation matter on hold and removed it from immediate council or Board of Appeals action pending court direction.
The council did not deliberate further on the substation at the Oct. 10 meeting; no timeline for court resolution was provided.
