Historic Preservation Board reapproves carport modifications at 2507 Passer Girl Way

The Historic Preservation Board voted Thursday to reconfirm a certificate of appropriateness for 2507 Passer Girl Way after staff described modest differences between the approved drawing and the as-built work.

Staff presented case 24053, saying the post‑storm work included a slightly thicker intermediate post profile, a thicker fascia board, less taper on some columns and a thicker pedestal cap. "Staff finds them to be relatively minor," the staff member said, and asked the board whether it wanted to recommend modifications before the case goes to the city commission for an ad valorem exemption vote next Tuesday.

Owner Sherry Ceccino told the board she learned of the changes only when a staff member pointed them out. "I'm Sherry Ceccino, 2507 Pasco Way," she said, and described a contractor who abandoned the project and took money. "Our contractors stole our money and abandoned the project," Ceccino said, adding that some adjustments were made to make the railing and supports safer.

Board members questioned whether changes were structural or purely aesthetic and suggested modest design fixes. One member proposed painting the stepped top of the pedestal cap the same blue as the house "to give that illusion of a little bit more of a taper," which Ceccino said she could arrange with a painter if necessary.

A board member moved to accept the certificate of appropriateness as constructed; another member seconded. The board approved the motion by roll call (Member Daschle: yes; Member Young: yes; Member Zaleski: yes; Vice Chair Hurley: yes). The staff presentation noted the case will proceed to the city commission next Tuesday for the owners' ad valorem exemption request.

The board did not require additional modifications, concluding the built changes did not significantly depart from the earlier approval.
