Grain Valley approves water-tower engineering contract, writes off $9,000 in bad debt and orders police SUV

The board approved Resolution R25-49, authorizing the City Administrator to execute an agreement with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly for engineering services on the city's new water tower. Alderman Lisa Limberg-Gardner moved the resolution, Alderman Jim Myers seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote 5-0. City staff said the on-call engineer will provide construction oversight under the city's agreement with its contractor.
The board also approved Resolution R25-50 to write off doubtful utility account balances. Alderman Ryan Skinner moved approval; the minutes state the amount totals 'just over $9,000' for the year and that the trend in write-offs has improved. The motion passed 5-0.
Finally, the board approved Resolution R25-51 to authorize purchase of a police-rated Ford Explorer from Shawnee Mission Ford to equip a newly created fifth sergeant position. Alderman Brian Bray moved the resolution and Alderman Lisa Limberg-Gardner seconded; the motion passed 5-0. Police Chief Ed Turner told the board the vehicle is available now and equipment-outfitting will be addressed at the next meeting.
All three measures were approved without recorded opposition. The minutes do not list contract amounts for the engineering agreement or the vehicle purchase price.
