Superintendent George Alexis told parents at a district information session that the Long Hill Township School District's proposed goals for 2024-25 center on inquiry-based instruction, personalized learning and measurable progress using I-Ready diagnostics.
"You'll see the district goals for 02/24-25," Alexis said, adding the board will consider the goals at a Sept. 9 meeting and "once approved, they will become the official district goals." He said the district plans a separate parent session later in September to explain how families can use I-Ready data.
Why it matters: The district is tying its instructional priorities to a stated measurement plan so parents and staff can track changes over the year. Alexis said the district will use I-Ready diagnostic results to measure progress and to set interventions and supports.
Alexis also highlighted attendance as a formal target. "We are hopeful that the goal that is set at 97% will bring us closer to the pre-pandemic rates of attendance," he said, and linked daily attendance to learning: when students attend regularly and are engaged, the district expects student achievement to improve.
The superintendent noted the district's public reporting plans and state oversight. He described the CUSAC process as the state's three-year monitoring cycle and said the district will report on CUSAC results during the school year.
Details parents asked about at the session reinforce the timeline and transparency the district plans: Alexis said recorded sessions will be posted to the district website (the recording of this session was promised within about 24 hours) and that administrators will share more specific guidance about I-Ready and other assessments.
What remains unspecified: The board will vote on the district goals at the Sept. 9 meeting; final approval and any revisions will be reflected in board minutes after that meeting.
