Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners to revisit cemetery bylaws, conditional-use process and road repairs

At its Jan. 27 work session the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County reviewed departmental updates and advanced several planning and infrastructure items for upcoming meetings.

Community member Robert Sumner addressed the commission to describe training activities at the NSA compound and offered pro bono assistance for county events. Department heads (or the county manager relaying their reports) provided updates: recreation programming is transitioning from basketball to baseball and seeks umpires; code enforcement and permitting activity continues; well #4 received a new box and breaker that appears to have resolved earlier issues; public works reported pavement and water-tower floor needs and two internal promotions; animal-control noted increased stray dogs around the county.

County Manager Thomas Weaver outlined items to appear on the Feb. 4 regular meeting agenda and a follow-up Feb. 24 work session. The items include drafting cemetery bylaws in coordination with the cemetery committee, continuing discussion of the conditional-use permit (CUP) process with an invitation to the Planning & Zoning Board and consideration of reducing its membership from seven to five, and prioritizing road repairs—specifically using 2024 LMIG funds to address Friendship Road and adjacent Liberty Hill Road. Weaver said staff will prepare public-hearing notices and suggested holding the next work session in the evening to increase public participation.

The work session moved into executive session on personnel, legal and real-estate matters, reconvened, and adjourned at 10:58 a.m. The county manager and staff will bring drafts and public-hearing dates to future meetings for formal action.
