Votes at a glance: Cusseta–Chattahoochee Commission approves elections appointments, meeting calendar; denies CUP
Summary
On Dec. 3 the commission approved three Board of Elections appointments, adopted its 2025 meeting and employee holiday calendars, tabled cemetery bylaws and sent a sheriff vehicle request to the work session. The board denied the 105 Mustang Dr. CUP (see separate article).
The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners handled several routine and administrative votes on Dec. 3.
Appointments: The commission appointed Nancy Hoard to the Board of Elections for a term beginning Jan. 1, 2025 and expiring Dec. 31, 2028; Valerie Lassiter to a term beginning Jan. 1, 2025 and expiring Dec. 31, 2026; and Crystal Walker to a term beginning Jan. 1, 2025 and expiring Dec. 31, 2028. Commissioner Timothy Biddle recused himself from the vote on Crystal Walker; otherwise the appointments were approved by recorded motions and unanimous votes of the commissioners present.
Administrative approvals: Commissioners approved the minutes from Nov. 12, 2024 and other prior meeting minutes; they adopted a 2025 meeting calendar and a 2025 employee holiday calendar after motions and votes recorded on the floor. The commission also voted to send a sheriff‑vehicle acquisition matter to a future work session for further discussion and tabled proposed cemetery bylaws until the next work session.
Attorney engagement note: County Attorney Bin Minter informed the commission that he will join a new law firm (Clark Hill) and that his hourly rate would increase to $325 beginning Jan. 1; the commission placed the attorney rate item on a future agenda for consideration. The minutes record the attorney’s notification and that an engagement letter would allow file transfer; a formal vote on rate increase was not recorded in the Dec. 3 minutes.
Executive session: The commission entered executive session at 7:43 p.m. to discuss legal matters and reconvened at 8:08 p.m. The chairman stated the matters discussed were within open‑meetings exceptions and that no votes were taken while the meeting was closed.
What this means: Appointees to the Board of Elections will assume their stated terms on Jan. 1, 2025 as recorded in adopted resolutions; other items (cemetery bylaws, vehicle procurement, attorney rate) were deferred for further study or future votes.
