Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners confirm leadership, appoint library trustee and honor late commissioner

At its Jan. 7 meeting the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County appointed Charles Coffey as chairman and Timothy Biddle as vice chair, adopted a proclamation honoring the late James "Jim" Lawrence and appointed Linda Englebert to the county library board.
The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County on Jan. 7 confirmed its leadership and made several personnel and ceremonial appointments.
Commissioner Gerald Douglas moved to appoint Charles Coffey as chairman after a prior motion to appoint Commissioner Timothy Biddle failed for lack of a second. The minutes record Commissioner Damon Hoyte voting against Coffey’s appointment while the motion carried. Commissioner Jason Frost later moved, and Commissioner Douglas seconded, to appoint Commissioner Timothy Biddle as vice chair; the minutes record the vote as unanimous.
The commission also approved a resolution honoring James Edward “Jimmy” Lawrence. The adopted proclamation notes Lawrence’s long service: “James Lawrence served as an Assessor to the Board of Assessors from March 2006–December 2008, then as a County Commissioner from January 1, 2009–December 31, 2012, then once again served another term as County Commissioner January 1, 2013–December 31, 2019.” The proclamation states the board “does hereby honor and commend the service of James Lawrence.”
On a separate motion the board appointed Linda Englebert to the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Library Board for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2027. The minutes record the vote to appoint Englebert as unanimous.
Procedural items approved without recorded dissent included the minutes from Dec. 3 and Dec. 23, 2024 (regular, work session and executive session minutes).
The meeting adjourned at 10:24 a.m., after an executive session on legal matters from which the board reconvened and reported no votes were taken in closed session.
