Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County Commission approves reappointments, tables several agenda items and enters executive session

The Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners met Oct. 1 and handled a mix of routine approvals and items tabled for further review.
The commission unanimously approved the minutes for the Sept. 3 regular meeting and related executive‑session and work‑session minutes, and approved a refund request for Beverly Riley. Commissioners voted unanimously to reappoint James (Jim) Wiehe to the Board of Tax Assessors (Post 5) and Ken Vanhorn to the Board of Tax Assessors (Post 4). The board also approved the appointment of County Manager Thomas Weaver to represent the county on the Two Rivers Regional Commission through Dec. 31, 2025.
Several agenda items were tabled for additional consideration: a request by the local Board of Education to use Old City Hall was tabled until the November meeting; the proposed cardboard compactor at the recycling center was tabled until the next work session; naming the county engineer of record (Paul Rakel was discussed) was tabled; cemetery bylaws were left for further work with the cemetery committee; and two vehicle purchases for the sheriff’s office and EMA were tabled until December. The commission approved using credit to purchase one vehicle for Board of Commissioners use so funds would not be lost, while deferring other vehicle purchases pending SPLOST results and further review.
Chairman Charles Coffey said the subjects discussed during the executive session, which began at 6:57 p.m., were within exceptions to the open‑meetings law. The commission reconvened at 7:44 p.m. and adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
Why it matters: the reappointments and approvals preserve continuity for county operations, while tabling multiple procurement and facilities items signals the commission wants additional review before committing county resources. The executive session notice also records active legal matters affecting the county.
What’s next: several items are set for future consideration at the Nov. 12 meeting or at the next work session; no final votes on the tabled procurements or the Board of Education request were recorded Oct. 1.
