Maple Lake council approves equipment purchases, safety contract, pay premiums, permits and an airport lease

At its June 16 meeting, the Maple Lake City Council approved a series of routine operational measures affecting public works, staffing incentives and community events.
Councilors voted to approve trading in underused equipment and purchasing two Bobcat skid-steer attachments after Public Works Director Andrew Johnson described anticipated operational benefits. The council also approved contracting with MMUA for tier 2 safety‑program support with quarterly payments.
On staffing incentives, the council approved pay premiums intended to retain licensed operators: $2.00 per hour for commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders, $1.00 per hour for Water Class D, $1.00 per hour for Water Class C, $0.50 per hour for Wastewater Class S‑D and $0.50 per hour for Wastewater Class S‑C. Councilor Kris Logas moved the pay‑premium measure; Councilor Scott Chantland seconded. The motion passed (4–0).
Regarding ongoing capital work, City Engineer Chuck Boser presented Change Order No. 1 for the 2025 Structure Rehabilitation Program. Council members noted concern that some work appeared to have been completed before council approval of the change order; despite that concern the council approved Change Order No. 1 and separately approved Pay Request No. 3 for the same project. Both motions passed on recorded 4–0 votes.
The council also approved gambling permits for three Maple Lake Booster Club events (Sept. 11, 2026 at Irish Football Stadium; Sept. 18, 2026 at The Butchery of Maple Lake; Oct. 2, 2026 at Irish Football Stadium) and a gambling permit application from Wright County Community Action. An airport lease application for Hangar C‑1 from Troy Rolf was approved after the council noted the airport commission had no comment. Finally, the council approved purchasing a half‑page advertisement in the 2026–2027 Community Guide. All recorded motions passed by a 4–0 vote.
Motions were typically introduced by Councilor Kris Logas, seconded by Councilor Scott Chantland or Councilor Lori Hausken, and approved unanimously by the four council members present. Councilor Natt Bougie was absent for the meeting.
