Commission gives manager advice and consent to hire, holds executive sessions; resident raises 911 address and $260 fine

At the Sept. 3 regular meeting the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County voted unanimously to give County Manager Thomas Weaver advice and consent to hire a recommended candidate for a director position. Chairman Charles Coffey said the Commission will make the new hire’s name public at the next meeting; the motion to provide advice and consent was made by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Timothy Biddle.
The Commission on Sept. 3 and again on Sept. 23 voted to enter executive session. The Sept. 3 executive session began at 9:34 a.m. and recessed the meeting; the board reconvened at 10:11 a.m. Chairman Coffey stated the closed sessions involved personnel and legal matters and that no votes were taken while the meeting was closed.
During the Sept. 23 work session resident Christine Richards told the Commission she received a $260 fine connected to a citation she believes related to junk cars and said her 911 address had been recorded as 145 when her property is 140. Richards said she did not receive a prior warning; County Manager Weaver clarified that fines imposed by a judge are judicial in nature and not within the Commission’s authority to reverse. Chairman Coffey and staff agreed to investigate the 911 sign and the billing/address issue and brief Richards on findings. Richards told the board she is on a fixed income and asked for help resolving the matter.
Work‑session department updates included recreation registration and field valve searches, community development newsletter and code enforcement updates, water department work, animal control staffing changes, and road repairs after recent rain. County Manager Weaver enumerated items to appear on the Oct. 1 agenda, including Board of Education use of Old City Hall, recycling matters, tax assessor reappointments, Board of Elections readings, vehicle purchases/trades, naming an engineer of record, cemetery bylaws, and rescheduling November’s meeting because it falls on Election Day.
The board adjourned the Sept. 23 work session after reconvening from a closed session at 11:53 a.m.
