County manager reports roundabout delays, stray-facility inspection and public-works updates

County Manager Thomas Weaver briefed the Commission at the Feb. 24 work session on several operational items affecting county infrastructure and services.
Weaver said the county is working to meet staffing-level requirements with its IGSA partners and is addressing findings from a recent inspection of the county stray facility; the inspection raised concerns the county has 30 days to correct. He also reported storm cleanup work and a pipe repair on Hitchitee Creek Road. Weaver said LMIG paperwork has been forwarded to an engineer to prepare bid packets for road work, including a proposed substitution of Riverbend Road with Friendship Road for the LMIG program.
On the county roundabout, Weaver said the contract lists a 60-day duration but that he expects the project to take closer to a year. "The contract said 60 days, but I believe a year is more realistic," Weaver said. Public Works has replaced a radio shed and awaits Columbus Communications to complete equipment hookups.
Weaver also relayed recreation updates: baseball registration was extended and youth basketball finals are scheduled for March. He reported a septic issue at the Sheriff's Department had required correction.
Chairman Coffey asked about an audit update and Weaver said the auditor (David McCoy) was still working on the audit. The Commission asked staff to continue following up with the health department and engineers as needed.
