Board adopts LCAP and 2026–27 budget after state-of-district report; district highlights student supports and modernization projects

The Redwood City School District board approved the district’s 2026–27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the 2026–27 budget at its June 24 meeting after a presentation by Superintendent John Baker reviewing student supports and capital projects.
Staff presented the LCAP with no material changes since the prior week; trustees moved, seconded and approved the LCAP by voice vote. Staff then recommended approval of the 2026–27 budget; the board approved the budget by voice vote. Trustees described the items as in line with prior presentations and noted a 45-day budget revision will be brought in August after negotiated settlements are finalized.
In his state-of-district remarks, Dr. Baker reviewed LCAP priorities (student well-being and engagement, academic achievement, and English learner supports) and highlighted program metrics: more than 5,000 households received food distributions via district sites; 1,126 backpacks and supplies were distributed; the district contracted tutoring services that reached 388 students; and mental-health supports included 594 individual counseling sessions, 225 group counseling instances, 3,408 check-ins and 161 crisis interventions during the reporting period. Dr. Baker credited partnerships (including work with Stanford specialists) for enabling rapid psychiatric follow-up in acute cases.
On modernization, Dr. Baker said Measure S HVAC work has completed phase 1 at several sites and phase 2 is underway at Clifford Kennedy and Orion, with phase 3 planned for summer 2027. He reported Measure T solar expansion is near closeout and that remaining Measure T funds are largely expended. Trustees and staff noted the tangible benefits of lighting upgrades and HVAC installations at school sites.
The board also approved Resolution 35 (Ed Code options allowing credentialed teachers to teach outside their credential area when they meet content requirements) and accepted a federal addendum to the LCAP covering Title I–IV funding. Staff said district-level federal funds total roughly $1,000,000 across the four Title buckets and that nine sites receive Title I dollars based on unduplicated pupil counts.
All motions carried by voice vote during the meeting; consent items passed earlier in the session.
