New Lebanon officials report wastewater main break; Ohio EPA to attend next meeting

Village municipal staff told the council Tuesday that a main break at the wastewater treatment plant on June 22 required parts replacement and multiple system flushes, with crews returning for additional flushing the weekend of June 27–28.
Kyle (municipal operations) said crews found a damaged filter (Filter 1) that had been spraying and was taken out of service; the media in the filter must be replaced and staff will solicit bids for repair. He reported that 7 of 10 units are running on the west side and advised residents to open outside spigots to flush sediment and discolored water from household lines.
Municipal manager told the council staff are sequencing repairs, that parts may have been installed incorrectly by a contractor and that Filters 2 and 3 might also need attention once Filter 1 is restored. She said the village will present capital requests by Aug. 1 as part of the five‑year plan and reminded residents the Ohio EPA will send representatives to the council’s next regular meeting to answer questions about the water system.
The village has planned additional maintenance (including replacing media in Filter 1) and is prioritizing safety-related work; the manager and operations staff encouraged residents to report continuing concerns to the village so crews can respond.
Next steps: Ohio EPA representatives will attend the next council meeting (announced for July 21) to discuss the local water system and answer resident questions.
