Long Beach Island board adopts 2024–25 goals emphasizing consolidation, student transitions and staff development

The Long Beach Island Consolidated School District Board of Education on Nov. 19 adopted three strategic goals for the 2024–25 school year focused on student transition, building consolidation and board conduct.
The goals direct administration and staff to (1) pursue articulation with similar districts and Southern Regional Middle and High Schools to develop transition programs for fifth- and sixth-grade students and to integrate technology and social-media strategies that support student achievement; (2) facilitate consolidation of staff and students into one building by designing schedules and co-teaching models and providing professional development (including Genesis and Frontline training, CPI, Science of Reading and classroom management); and (3) maintain a culture of professionalism, mutual respect and clear norms for board conduct while keeping the focus on student interests.
Board members framed the goals as preparatory steps tied to the proposed addition and elevation work at the Ethel A. Jacobsen School; the minutes record work to develop schedules and professional development to support a consolidated model. The motion to adopt the goals passed unanimously by roll call.
The board asked administration to develop follow-up plans, including timelines for consolidation scheduling and required professional development, and to report progress in future meetings.
