Board discusses facilities asset-management, custodial position and paraprofessional scheduling

The Business Administrator proposed creating a facilities asset-management committee to address buildings and grounds needs; the minutes list committee members as Tina Palecek, John Feleppo and Bob Marinelli. The board discussed the operational benefits of a formal tracking document for long-range facilities items.
The board was alerted to a need for a part-time, floater custodial position to maintain building maintenance and cleanliness. Members asked that a full cost breakdown be prepared for the Sept. 18 meeting before any vote on creating the position.
On staffing, Board Member Judy Liptak raised a question rooted in last year’s budget-cycle discussions about outsourcing paraprofessionals; she asked whether the issue had been resolved for the start of the school year. Superintendent Israel Marmolejos said a PERC decision may affect future options but that the district’s current staffing is adequate; Board Secretary Tina M. Palecek added that scheduling work by administrators has provided classroom continuity. Board Member Breanne Sweeney suggested the district consider a paraprofessional floater to handle scheduling gaps or new student placements.
The board also approved adding rotating members to the teacher-liaison committee to increase participation while keeping two standing members (Jones-Jasper and Liptak) for stability; rotating attendance starts in October. Community Day was moved to Sept. 13 and magnets for the event are in production, the board was told.
Board President David Schaible reminded members the Warren County SBA hybrid fall meeting is Oct. 8 at Hawke Point and said the Lopatcong board will be recognized for its training efforts.
