Long Beach Island board approves minutes, policies, finances, grants and insurance

The Long Beach Island Board of Education on July 23 approved routine governance and fiscal items including minutes, first readings of revised policies, financial statements and bills, and a set of annual contracts and grants.
Motion by board member Brielle Hoffacker, second by board member Kristy Raber, carried on multiple roll-call votes in which six members voted in favor and one—board member Mr. Schragger—voted no on several items. The board approved June 2024 financial reports and the statement of cash balances; accepted the June transfer report; approved a supplemental bills list for June totaling $32,951.46 and the July bills list totaling $358,212.64; and authorized travel and training for facilities manager Mark Bish.
The board approved a contract for Special Education social work services with SKF Social Work Services, LLC at $470 per day and renewed the student basic accident and catastrophic insurance policy through Bob McCloskey Insurance at a premium of $3,000 for July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025. The board approved web hosting, mass notification and communications services with Finalsite/Active Internet Technologies at a rate of $8,743 for the 2024–2025 year.
The board authorized submission and acceptance of FY25 Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) funds: Title I $42,281; Title II $3,821; Title IV $10,000 (total $56,102). It also accepted 2024–2025 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funds: Basic $67,676; Preschool $4,304 (total $71,980). Insurance renewals (workers’ compensation, property, liability, auto, bond and school-leaders professional liability) were approved with listed premium totals that sum to $172,579.
The board approved a Virtual/Remote Instruction Plan for 2024–2025 for submission to the Executive County Superintendent. Members were reminded that closed-session minutes will be released when nondisclosure reasons no longer exist and that the next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20 at the Ethel A. Jacobsen School, with the school election filing deadline on July 29.
