Commissioner Nichols reflects on military service; Commissioner Minty raises concern for nonprofit leaders stranded abroad

Nichols said revisiting a building where he served in combat ‘‘hit me harder than I expected’’ and called the program ‘‘incredibly valuable’’ for building connections across agriculture, forestry and other natural-resource sectors.
Commissioner Minty used his report to flag a safety concern: he said earlier that day a director at Friends of the Children told him that a group of Oregon nonprofit leaders were stuck in a house in Puerto Vallarta under orders not to leave, with no flights operating in or out of the airport. Minty said he has reached out to U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley on behalf of the group and named Angela Groves, a local nonprofit leader, as among those affected.
Both reports were delivered as part of the meeting’s routine business and did not prompt formal action. The board adjourned at about 1:30 p.m.
