At the meeting the Winthrop School Board approved several routine but consequential items, including the 2026–2027 school calendar, three policies on second reading, a personnel hire and an out-of-state field trip.
The board approved the 2026–2027 school calendar with no changes since the prior draft. On second reading the board adopted EBBD (temperature standards), IHBAC (child fines) and FFA (memorials) policies, with administrators reporting no revisions since the first reading.
The board voted to employ Haley Dion as a second-grade teacher after administrators reported she had served as the long-term substitute in the second-grade classroom since October and had obtained required certification. Chair welcomed Dion to the staff.
Art teacher Kristen Kaiser described a proposed May 8 trip for music, drama and visual-arts students to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Faneuil Hall and a performance of Seussical in Hyde Park; the board unanimously approved the field trip and chartered bus transportation.
The meeting also included a board discussion of internal communication and a public acknowledgment by the chair for adding a Title IX-related motion without prior notice at the March 4 meeting; the board and superintendent agreed to improve advance notice and add administration input to future policy deliberations.
