The Winthrop School Board moved and voted unanimously to approve second readings of multiple policies during its meeting, accepting codes ECB (pest management); JLCB (immunization of students); JICIA (weapons, violence and school safety); JFC (dropout prevention and student withdrawal); EEEAEA (student transportation employee requirements, training and responsibilities); EEEAAA (drug and alcohol testing of school bus drivers); and EEEAAAAR (administrative procedure for testing).
The motion to approve the slate of policies was made and seconded; the chair called the vote and stated it was unanimous.
During the superintendent’s reports the board learned that Lori Smale, principal of Winthrop Middle School, will retire at the end of the school year. The superintendent thanked Smale for four years of service and praised her leadership.
The board also unanimously approved the annual nomination of Jennifer McConnell as the district physician, a routine appointment the superintendent described as a standard yearly step so nurses and administrators can consult a physician when needed.
There was no public comment during the meeting and no executive session was called; the chair adjourned the meeting at 6:25 p.m.
