Public Works to begin dissolving Road Service District; board approves two personnel memos

Public Works staff (Jeremy Morris and Sandy Cox) told the Klamath County Board of Commissioners on March 2 that the department will begin the formal dissolution process for the county’s Road Service District, citing inefficiencies and the need to streamline operations. Staff said the process will follow required public notice and hearings before any final action.
At the same meeting the board unanimously approved two personnel memos. Commissioner Nichols moved to approve a Department Request Engineer; Commissioner DeGroot seconded the motion and all three commissioners voted yes. The board also approved a Department Request Road Inspector II reclassification in a separate unanimous vote, with Commissioner Nichols making the motion and Commissioner DeGroot seconding.
Morris and Sandy Cox outlined other department priorities, including adjustments to the chip-seal program to reduce staff burnout, delays to several capital projects attributed to utility relocations and right-of-way issues, and postponement of equipment purchases pending anticipated changes in federal emissions regulations.
The board’s actions were procedural approvals of personnel requests; staff will return later in the process with public-notice documents and any required hearings related to the Road Service District dissolution. The board did not vote to dissolve the district at this meeting.
