Long County approves fire-fee settlement, discontinues service fees; several routine motions pass
Summary
The Board approved a Service Fee (Fire Fee) Settlement Agreement to stop collecting fire service fees, reappointed board members, authorized an RFP for building inspector services, renewed employee insurance and approved a $100 FFA sponsorship.
During the June 2 meeting the Long County Board of Commissioners approved a Service Fee (Fire Fee) Settlement Agreement and voted to discontinue collection of the fee. Commissioner John Reddish moved the settlement agreement and Commissioner Benji Strickland seconded; the motion passed. County staff earlier described budget adjustments to increase Fire Department operational funding following elimination of the fee.
Other actions recorded in the June meetings and hearings included: the Board authorized issuance of a Request for Proposals for a 90-day Building Inspector contract with the Code Enforcement Office (motion by Commissioner John Reddish); approved the Employee Insurance Renewal (motion by Commissioner John Reddish, seconded by Commissioner James Craft); reappointed James Howard to the Board of Tax Assessors (motion by Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker); reappointed Linda Smith and Betty Baxter to the Long County Public Library Board (motions by Commissioner James Craft and Commissioner John Reddish); and approved a $100 sponsorship for Long County High School FFA (motion by Commissioner John Reddish, seconded by Commissioner Benji Strickland).
The Board entered and exited executive session for litigation on motions recorded in the minutes. The June 2 meeting adjourned on a motion by Commissioner James Craft.
