Webster schedules Halloween event, fall planning session and discusses playground opening and safety camera

The board discussed adjusting times for the town Halloween event and the need for law-enforcement support to help with traffic control. Commissioners agreed the event will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with volunteers available to stay later if needed. Mayor Tracy Rodes said she will check with the sheriff’s office about obtaining two officers to work from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to assist with traffic.
The board scheduled a fall planning session on Sept. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to discuss new projects and potential town purchases.
On the playground grand opening, Rodes said Michael Hopkins plans a short ribbon-cutting ceremony and does not plan an extended event; Commissioner Leigh Anne Young said she had spoken with Mr. Hopkins about the possibility of installing a camera at the playground for safety.
Commissioner Danell Moses reported attending a Solid Waste Committee meeting that lacked a quorum and said she attended a Litter Task Force meeting planning a 'Cleaning Up the Mountains' event for the last week in October. Commissioner Brandon Core said Mike Poston will be speaking with municipalities to request a municipal representative for the Historic Preservation Commission.
