Mayor: utility customers will assume credit-card fees; board hears updates on stadium lighting, radar signs and facility planning

Mayor Tracy Rodes briefed the Webster Board of Commissioners on several administrative items at the Sept. 4 meeting.

Rodes said the TWSA (Town Water and Sewer Authority) sent customers a notice about a breach of protocol during an outage and that customers who pay their bills by credit card will be required to assume the transaction fees associated with those payments; Rodes said payments by cash, check or bank draft do not incur fees.

Rodes told the board she spoke with Sylva Herald reporter Dave Russell about proposed stadium lighting at the softball field; she said Russell used a brief email exchange in his write-up. Rodes said several residents have asked whether proposed ball-field lights would remain on overnight.

On equipment maintenance, Rodes said she spoke with Daniel Vreeland at the sheriff’s office; he will replace the radar sign battery and alert the town if repairs are more complicated. Rodes also said she would reach out to Jay Harris to coordinate when deputies would come to work on the sign.

Rodes reported scheduling a Sept. 9 meeting with County Manager Kevin King and Russ Harris to discuss potential partnership opportunities and space use for the SWCD building (the Old Rock School). She said the community room is important as a voting location and that the town might consider moving some Town Hall operations there if space becomes available; County Manager King plans to bring a floor plan and arrange a site visit.
