Webster board: new digital radar signs delivered; Old School crosswalk expected before Oct. 31

The Webster Board of Commissioners on Sept. 20 said digital radar speed signs have been delivered and town staff are coordinating installation with the Department of Transportation. Mayor Tracy Rodes reported the existing radar sign is malfunctioning and may need replacement when the new signs are installed. She said the town notified William Weddle at DOT about installation plans and that the town will assess whether to replace the old sign.
Commissioner Dale Collins reported he had heard, via Rose Bauguess and William Weddle, that a pedestrian crosswalk at the Old School will be installed and may be in place before Oct. 31. The board agreed to wait for DOT’s installation to determine whether additional crosswalk signage is needed.
Mayor Rodes also said Daniel Vreeland with the Sheriff’s Office still plans to replace the battery on the current malfunctioning sign while the town coordinates with DOT. Separately, the board requested that Matt Hawkins seek two patrol officers to staff Town Hall activities on Halloween from 5:00–8:00 p.m., a precaution the board discussed in the same session as the signage updates.
The board’s next step is to allow DOT to complete installation and then evaluate whether the town must purchase supplemental signage or replace the existing unit entirely. No formal vote was recorded on purchasing or installing signs during the meeting; the discussion was an administrative update.
