Humboldt County appoints Taylor Pedersen, hires summer staff and hears Reasoner Dam request

At its March 24 meeting the Humboldt County Board appointed Taylor Pedersen to the Conservation Board, approved two seasonal hires and three camp hosts for summer 2025, and heard public requests about Reasoner Dam and a drainage petition; the county engineer also reported a seismic testing distance change.
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors appointed Taylor Pedersen to fill a vacancy on the Conservation Board and approved seasonal summer hires and camp hosts during its March 24 meeting.
The board noted the resignation of Tate Satern from the Conservation Board (resigned March 20, 2025). Supervisor Rasmussen moved and Supervisor Carpenter seconded appointing Taylor Pedersen to serve the remainder of Satern’s term; the motion passed with all voting aye.
The board approved two seasonal part-time positions for summer 2025, naming John Riles and Monte Houkoos at $22.75 per hour, and approved three camp hosts: Kathy Ubben at $400 per week, Rhonda Vinsand at $400 per week and Wendy Johnson at $350 per week. Supervisor Loney moved and Supervisor Rasmussen seconded the hires; all voting aye.
During the public concerns period, Susan Tille of the River Development Group asked the board to consider contracting with RDG to do work on Reasoner Dam. The board also heard from Mark Fehr, who farms the Archer Humboldt Inc. property, who described a drainage petition asking to pattern tile and install a new relief main; Fehr was told a petition will be available at the county auditor’s office and that an informal hearing will be scheduled once two signatures are obtained.
County Engineer Ben Loots informed the board that a previously signed contract will be amended to change the allowable seismic testing distance within county tile from 250 feet to 50 feet.
The board reset the FY2025/2026 budget hearing to 8:36 a.m. on April 21, 2025.
The board adjourned at 9:27 a.m.
