Humboldt County supervisors approve routine agenda items, licenses and quarterly reports

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the April 7 agenda and March 31 minutes, accepted auditor and recorder quarterly reports, and approved a special-event liquor license and a seasonal tobacco/vapor retail permit; a resident raised property-tax valuation concerns during public comment.
Vice Chairperson Bruce Reimers called the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors to order at 8:30 a.m. on April 7, 2025. Supervisors Carpenter, Loney, Rasmussen and Pedersen (participating by phone) were noted as present.
The board moved quickly through routine business. Supervisor Rasmussen moved and Supervisor Loney seconded approval of the day’s agenda; the motion passed with all voting aye. The board then approved the minutes from the March 31, 2025 meeting on a motion by Supervisor Loney, seconded by Supervisor Rasmussen.
After a public comment period (see separate story), the board recessed to convene as the Board of Trustees on a motion by Supervisor Loney seconded by Supervisor Rasmussen, then adjourned the trustees and reconvened as the Board of Supervisors on a motion by Supervisor Carpenter seconded by Supervisor Rasmussen; both motions passed unanimously.
The supervisors accepted and placed on file the Auditor’s Quarterly Report and the Recorder’s Quarterly Report ending March 31, 2025 after motions by Supervisor Loney and seconded by Supervisor Rasmussen; both were approved with all voting aye.
On licensing matters, the board approved a Special Event Class C Retail Liquor License with outdoor sales for Top of Iowa Lucky Wife, LLC (moved by Supervisor Rasmussen; seconded by Supervisor Carpenter) and approved a cigarette/tobacco/nicotine/vapor retail permit for April–September 2025 for the Humboldt Country Club (moved by Supervisor Loney; seconded by Supervisor Carpenter). Both motions passed unanimously.
Supervisors provided brief committee reports, noting recent tours of the sheriff’s office, safety meetings, drainage reviews and a tornado drill at the courthouse. The meeting adjourned at 10:09 a.m. on a motion by Supervisor Rasmussen seconded by Supervisor Loney.
