The Westport Island Planning Board heard a cluster of administrative items May 6, including an enforcement update on an after-the-fact retaining-wall permit, a draft annual committee report, and a pre-application request from Verizon for a possible independent cell tower on Post Office Road.
The CEO (Gary, referenced by staff) reported the Williams property work lacks the required DEP permit and that he is preparing an after-the-fact permit and may issue a notice of violation if the state permit is not obtained. The board asked staff to set enforcement timelines and follow-up with the property owner.
Board members reviewed a draft annual report and suggested adding quantitative permit metrics (counts by permit type and open permits). The CEO said permit activity is increasing and gave a rough count of open permits; staff will update the draft with numbers before distribution to the select board.
A Verizon representative has sought a pre-application Zoom slot in June to present plans for a new tower; the board agreed to place a pre-application on the June agenda and requested that Verizon provide materials in advance for distribution.
Members also noted other pending items (Russell Phipps property inquiries, pier/pier-by-rule filings) and set a short follow-up meeting next week to move time-sensitive items forward.
