The Wentworth Town Council voted unanimously on July 8 to provide $3,300 to assist the RCHS softball team in purchasing state championship rings.
Town Clerk Yvonne Russell told the council she had spoken with Andrea Humble, who provided cost information that the rings for 22 players would total $6,600; Russell said the school expected to have raised about half that amount by the time of presentation. Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn Conner moved “To fund the RCHS softball team with $3,300 to purchase State Championship Rings.” Mayor Dennis Paschal Jr. seconded the motion and all voted in favor.
The minutes note Ms. Humble’s comment that the RCHS softball team was the first in Rockingham County to win that championship and that the City of Reidsville previously purchased championship rings for the RHS football team; those points were recorded by the clerk as background information provided in support of the funding request.
In addition to the ring appropriation, the council approved several routine procedural items by unanimous vote: approval of the agenda as written, approval of the June 3, 2025 council minutes, and annual approval of the town’s check signers list.
Votes at a glance: - Agenda approval: motion by Mayor Paschal, seconded by Councilmember Daryl Crowder; outcome: approved unanimously. - Minutes approval (June 3, 2025): motion by Mayor Paschal, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn Conner and Councilmember Daryl Crowder; outcome: approved unanimously. - RCHS rings appropriation ($3,300): motion by Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn Conner, seconded by Mayor Dennis Paschal Jr.; outcome: approved unanimously. - Annual approval of check signers list: motion by Mayor Paschal, seconded by Councilmember Daryl Crowder; outcome: approved unanimously.
The meeting adjourned after announcements about the July 15 Planning Board meeting and the August 5 council meeting. The minutes include a signature block and were submitted by Deputy Clerk Hunter B. Wilson.
