Mantoloking commission reports leaf blower ban in effect June 15–Sept. 15; outreach to landscapers planned

Barbara Hood Benz, a member of the Mantoloking Environmental Commission, said the borough’s ordinance banning gas-powered leaf blowers passed on the previous Tuesday and that the borough will notify landscapers and post public notices ahead of the start of enforcement.
Benz told the commission a letter will be sent to known local landscapers and that a notice has already been placed on the borough’s Facebook page. She said the full ban will be in effect June 15 through Sept. 15 and will apply to both contractors and residents.
Borough Administrator Brett Radi was present and will circulate related agenda materials when appropriate, the commission noted. The ordinance’s citation was not provided at the meeting.
The seasonal ban is intended to limit emissions and noise during the summer months; commission members did not detail enforcement mechanisms or penalties at this meeting. The item was reported as an update rather than introduced as a new motion or vote at the Feb. 25 session.
The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for March 25, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Borough Hall, with a phone-in option.
