Washington to post spring road weight limits; public works and emergency services report weekly activity

Ed Thayer, Public Works, told the Select Board the department will post roads for seasonal weight limits and has ordered an additional load of salt for winter maintenance. The board’s agenda includes Ordinance #93:011, which prohibits operation of motor vehicles over six tons on limited-weight streets from March 1 unless a special permit is issued after consultation with the Road Agent and the Select Board; delivery and certain business exceptions are noted in the ordinance language.
Thayer also said he had spoken with the Town of Stoddard administrator about a policy change, will post Town and School meeting information at the transfer station, and will follow up with the Select Board about an easement on Valley Road. Shawn Atkins, Fire Chief, reported fire and rescue activity for the week, raised concerns about snow removal at the safety center, and said there is a leak from the furnace at the fire department.
The board recorded several community notices: the Town Clerk’s office will no longer be open on Wednesdays (effective Dec. 1, 2025); Parks and Recreation is convening an Old Home Day 250th planning meeting on March 12; and a blood drive in memory of Rich Cook will be held at Camp Morgan Lodge on March 27 (12:00–5:00 p.m.).
