Board approves personnel slate and establishes sick-leave bank; early-childhood supervisor to be retitled pending certification

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Mantua Township School District board approved a slate of personnel actions and governance items related to staffing and policies.
The board reviewed a revised job description and approved a pending job-title change for Sherlon Jackson: the board agreed to change her title from Supervisor of Early Childhood to Early Childhood Vice Principal effective upon issuance of Mrs. Jackson’s principal certification from the New Jersey Department of Education.
The board approved multiple personnel items including new hires and substitutes. Notable entries on the personnel list included:
- Logan Campbell, J. Mason Tomlin School, part-time custodian, $15.49/hour, 5.95 hours/day, start date 1/16/2025. - Stefanie Ward, J. Mason Tomlin School, Summer Camp Supervisor, $27.88/hour, maximum of 60 hours, start date 1/14/2025. - Melissa Swanger, Sewell School, Paraprofessional, Step 1A, $16.81/hour, 5.95 hours/day, start date 1/14/2025. - Multiple substitute appointments at district rates: substitute junior counselor $15.49/hour, substitute aide $15.49/hour, substitute teacher $120.00/day.
The board also recorded personnel separations: Leslie Lewis (District Occupational Therapist) submitted a retirement effective 7/1/2025; Dorrell Butler was listed as a resignation effective 1/17/2025; Jonathan Laubin was recorded as job abandonment effective 1/2/2025. The transcript also records a personnel-rescind action for Paul Turlington (custodian) and other staff roster entries.
The board approved Miss Angela Walker (paraprofessional at Centre City School) to complete preclinical experience during Spring 2025 under named mentors, and approved substitute tutors at $43.00 per hour paid by the High Impact Tutoring (HIT) grant. The board recommended establishing a Sick Leave Bank for full-time staff.
Governance items including the first reading of policies—Policy 5512 (Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying), Policy 5701 (Academic Integrity), Policy 5710 (Student Grievance), Policy 8500 (Food Services), Policy 9320 (Cooperation with Law Enforcement Agencies) and Regulation 9320—were presented and included in the Governance/Human Resources slate that passed by roll-call vote 7–0.
On the motion approving Governance/Human Resources items 1–8 (moved by Mrs. Gregg, seconded by Mr. Wilkinson), the roll-call vote was recorded as Mr. Bruner, Dr. Carvalho, Mrs. DiAntonio, Ms. Leach, Mr. Wilkinson, Dr. Kroeger and Mrs. Gregg voting YES (7–0).
