Board OKs reunification sites, Grade 2 ELA, safety and remote-learning plans

The board approved primary and secondary student reunification sites, the Grade 2 ELA curriculum, the district Remote Learning Plan, and the School Safety & Security Plan for 2024–25; field trips and district goals were also approved.
At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Mantua Township Board of Education approved a set of operational and instructional items intended to prepare the district for the 2024–25 school year.
The board designated Rowan College of South Jersey/Gloucester Campus (Sewell) as the primary reunification site and RiverWinds Community Center (West Deptford) as the secondary site for emergency student reunification plans. The operations committee presented the recommendation and the board approved it as part of the consent agenda.
On curriculum and safety matters, the board recommended approval of the Grade 2 English Language Arts curriculum for the 2024–25 year, accepted the district Remote Learning Plan, and approved the School Safety & Security Plan for 2024–25. The minutes also record acceptance of a professional services contract with The Cooper Health System to provide neurological evaluations for students at a cost of $450 per evaluation.
The board approved the district’s 2024–25 goals—enhancing student achievement in mathematics, improving mastery of New Jersey Science Standards, and increasing HIB awareness to reduce incidents—and approved the Child Care Program parent handbook and two field trips (5th grade to Camp Ockanickon; 6th grade to Chestnut Branch Park).
During new business, Board member Ms. Atkinson asked whether lunch offerings would include organic or GMO-free items and inquired about donating toys for PreK; Mrs. Vick reminded members of an Oct. 21–23 conference and an Oct. 1 Camden/Gloucester hybrid meeting. The minutes show these items as informational or approved as part of the consent agenda without recorded public comment.
