Residents press North Castle board for clearer updates on pickleball plans as pool renovation bids come in

At the June 24 meeting, resident Peter Gold asked the Town of North Castle for a clear status update on plans for pickleball courts and criticized the town’s communication about the initiative.
"The process for communicating to us seems broken," Gold said, asking two short items: the current status of the courts and how the town will share updates. Multiple board members and Town Administrator Kevin Hay responded that the town is still evaluating feasibility at potential sites—Lombardi Park and Winkler Park—and that the recreation advisory board will prioritize existing park needs, including Winkler’s aging tennis courts.
Supervisor Rendy said pool-renovation bid documents are out and bids are expected by the end of June; depending on those results the town may seek to recondition tennis courts at the pool site for pickleball or pursue phased improvements. Board members acknowledged that municipal design, bidding and funding processes can be slow and that priorities must be balanced with other capital needs.
Several board members and the resident agreed that brief periodic updates (for example, a two-line status note every few weeks) would address the communication concern without requiring release of incomplete documents. The board asked the recreation advisory board to review the town’s facilities and reported plans to return to residents with more concrete proposals after bids and feasibility work are complete.
What’s next: pool-bid results expected by the end of June; rec advisory board will review facility priorities and the board will consider phased funding options.
